Leaving a Day Early for Siguatepeque

The group saw 60 patients this morning. They are packing up early and will leave this afternoon for Siguatepeque. They are leaving the mountains a day early because of the heavy rain, and fear that the dirt roads would become impassable. So, the students will be staying overnight in Siguatepeque and will have beds to sleep in tonight, instead of the usual sleeping bags.

This evening or tomorrow morning, they plan to also meet with people from the Rotary who are providing money for solar panel electricity for the clinic.

Then the group will travel to Copan Ruinas Wednesday night, which is an ancient Mayan village nestled in the foothills of western Honduras, and about seven miles from the Guatemala border. The group is excited to finally have internet access again!

The students who developed skits about health, related to dehydration, parasites etc. will perform them for Honduran school children there, and the group also plans to see more sick patients. Dennis says this will be another bit of exposure for students to see what life is really like in Honduras.

The group received constant updates throughout the Duke-Butler championship game last night, “biting our nails up until the last minute.” Of course, they were very delighted that Duke is #1!
